Tests by the State Laboratory confirmed the presence of bacteria in food samples taken by Health Services after a mass food poisoning at a wedding reception in Limassol a week ago.

Health Services director Herodotos Herodotou said that salmonella was found in cooked chicken with cream sauce, and bacillus bacteria were detected in rice with vermicelli and in pasta with mushrooms.

He said nine food samples were taken in total and that results from the remaining samples are still pending. He did not rule out further testing for toxins. Based on the State Laboratory findings, the food has been deemed unfit for consumption.

Herodotou said that once interviews with those affected are completed, an incident report will be drafted and a final conclusion issued. He said the case will be referred to court.
