Britain to Analyze Flight Recorders From Libyan Military Jet Crash in Türkiye, Ministry Says

Britain will conduct the technical analysis of the flight recorders from a jet carrying senior Libyan military officials that crashed in Türkiye this week, Libya’s Interior Ministry said Friday, after Germany declined to take on the task.

The ministry said the decision to involve Britain as a neutral party was reached in coordination with Libyan investigators, the Libyan attorney general and the Turkish prosecutor general.

Authorities had initially planned to send the “black box” to Germany for analysis. German experts were expected to lead the technical review of the crash, which killed Libya’s army chief of staff, Mohammed al‑Haddad, and four other military officials.

But the Interior Ministry said late Friday that Germany had declined, citing Turkish investigators who said German authorities lacked the specific technical capabilities needed for this aircraft model.

Al‑Haddad and his delegation were traveling to Tripoli on Tuesday evening when their business jet went down south of Ankara.
