FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides is set to travel from London to Helsinki today for a working visit on May 22-23 at the invitation of Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
Ahead of his arrival, a business forum will take place in Helsinki, bringing together Cypriot and Finnish shipping industry representatives. The event aims to bolster Cyprus’ maritime diplomacy and promote its role as a reliable international shipping hub. Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hadjimanolis will attend and accompany Christodoulides throughout his visit.
Christodoulides is scheduled to meet Stubb this afternoon in Helsinki, joined by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna and Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis. The talks will be followed by broader consultations between delegations from both countries, media statements, and a working dinner hosted by the Finnish president.
Later, Christodoulides will lay a wreath at Marshal Mannerheim’s grave and pay tribute at the War Memorial for Finnish Peacekeepers in Hietaniemi Cemetery.
On Friday morning, he will visit the Finnish Parliament for separate meetings with Speaker Jussi Halla-aho and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. His discussions in Helsinki will cover bilateral and European affairs, Middle East geopolitical developments, and Cyprus’ priorities for its EU Council presidency in early 2026.
Christodoulides is set to return to Cyprus Friday afternoon.
