A 43-year-old foreign national was ordered held for two days by the Larnaca District Court after authorities discovered large quantities of untaxed tobacco products in his luggage at Larnaca Airport.

According to a Customs Department statement, officers selected the Latvian passenger for inspection on Saturday based on intelligence. He was preparing to travel from Cyprus to London, UK.

During the physical search of his two suitcases, officials found 131 cartons of cigarettes—each containing 200 cigarettes—and nearly 7 kilograms of rolling tobacco. The products lacked mandatory Greek and Turkish health warnings, security markings, and traceability codes, indicating they were untaxed.

The man was arrested on the spot, and both his luggage and the tobacco were confiscated. He appeared before the Larnaca District Court on Sunday, which issued a two-day detention order.
