Cyprus deputy minister to attend Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona

Cyprus’ deputy minister for research, innovation and digital policy will take part in the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.

Deputy Minister Nikodimos Damianou is scheduled to join the event’s Ministerial Programme, one of the telecom industry’s largest annual gatherings, drawing tens of thousands of participants from more than 200 countries.

Damianou will speak at the programme’s opening session, “Connecting a World in Motion,” outlining the priorities of Cyprus’ presidency of the EU Council in digital policy and connectivity. He will also join a roundtable with ministers from Germany, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden and Lithuania to discuss the proposed Digital Networks Act and its role in strengthening Europe’s connectivity framework.

On the sidelines of the congress, Damianou will hold bilateral meetings with European counterparts and senior figures from Vodafone Group, Connect Europe, Google, ICANN and Plug and Play Tech Center. Talks with Plug and Play will focus on plans for a Plug & Play Cyprus Innovation Center.

The deputy minister will also visit the Cyprus pavilion at the 4YFN 2026 startup exhibition, held alongside MWC and coordinated by the Research and Innovation Foundation.

The government said Cyprus’ participation reflects its aim to maintain a strong international profile and an active role in Europe’s digital agenda. Damianou is expected to return to Cyprus on March 3.
