FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Republic of Cyprus has contributed €380,000 to the Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP), bringing its total financial support to more than €4.39 million since 2005.

The donation will bolster CMP’s work in 2025, including enhanced excavation efforts and the expansion of field operations.

It also supports the committee’s mission to identify and return the remains of individuals missing since intercommunal violence and the 1974 conflict, helping to end decades of anguish for affected families.

Established in April 1981 under United Nations auspices, CMP is a bi-communal initiative formed through agreement between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot authorities.

Its current project — focused on exhumation, identification, and repatriation of remains — began in 2006, with the European Union as its primary donor.

To date, CMP has identified and returned the remains of 1,055 missing persons to their families.

The committee relies on international donations to carry out its operations.
