FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cyprus Electricity Authority (AHK) has requested approval from the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (RAEK) for a 7.5% increase in electricity prices, plus VAT, bringing the total hike to around 9% to 9.5%.

During a parliamentary Energy Committee meeting Tuesday, officials discussed the proposed rate adjustments and their impact on consumers. Committee President Kyriakos Hatzigiannis claimed there had been intervention to prevent RAEK from issuing a formal response or announcement on the matter.

Following the session, Hatzigiannis criticized the handling of the price hike, saying different entities—including the government and AHK—were offering conflicting explanations. He argued that the increase was being imposed without clear justification.

Officials provided final figures during the meeting after being asked to submit data.
