FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Ercan Airport in northern Cyprus experienced heavy passenger and aircraft traffic during the Ramadan Feast, serving 160,023 passengers and 1,057 aircraft over a 10-day period, according to a statement from T&T Airport Operations.

The peak activity began on Friday, March 28, and continued until Sunday, April 6.

During the week, the airport recorded 84,000 arriving passengers and 76,000 departing passengers, with 529 incoming flights and 528 outgoing flights.

The airport – which is not recognized by the international aviation community – operates under the jurisdiction of the authorities in north Cyprus, which is only recognized by Turkey.

Due to its political status, flights to and from Ercan Airport must stop at a Turkish airport before proceeding to their final destination. (Famagusta Gazette)
