President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted EU housing programs during a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen at the Presidential Palace.
Christodoulides said energy remains a top priority for the European Union.
Jørgensen welcomed the fact that housing is high on the agenda of the Cypriot EU presidency.
Speaking after the meeting, he said the talks came at a turbulent time marked by the energy crisis, adding that member states must work together to address its impact on European citizens.
“The more renewable energy we have in our systems, the more independent we will be,” he said.
Jørgensen also noted that housing is a major issue for Cyprus and said EU ministers responsible for the sector will meet Wednesday to discuss the challenges facing Europe’s housing market.
