FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus and Finland are strengthening maritime cooperation ahead of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides’ official visit to Finland.

Cyprus’ Deputy Minister of Shipping Marina Hatzimanoli and Finland’s Secretary General of Transport Minna Kivimäki have agreed on new steps to enhance collaboration, aiming for a more sustainable, resilient, and competitive shipping industry.

A maritime forum in Helsinki on Wednesday brought together business delegations from both countries. Hatzimanoli and Kivimäki inaugurated the event before the Cypriot delegation toured the offshore patrol vessel Turva, hosted by the Finnish Coast Guard.

The officials also held a bilateral meeting, following earlier discussions at the European Shipping Summit in March. Talks covered progress in maritime cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations.

Key areas for future collaboration include automation in shipping, ship energy systems, cybersecurity, marine fuels, maritime education, gender equality, and employment opportunities in the sector. Both nations aim to leverage their maritime industries to advance sustainability in global shipping.
