The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued a fresh orange warning for extreme heat, as the island continues to endure sweltering conditions.
The warning is in effect from midnight Saturday through 5 p.m. Sunday, with inland temperatures expected to soar to 43°C and nighttime lows remaining uncomfortably high.
Tonight’s minimum temperatures will dip to 27°C inland, 25°C on the west coast, and 24°C in mountainous regions.
Skies will remain mostly clear, though patches of low cloud and light fog or mist may develop. Winds will be variable and weak, around 3 Beaufort, and seas will be calm to slightly rough.
Sunday’s forecast calls for clear skies following early morning fog. Winds will shift from variable to southwest-northwest, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort, with slightly rough seas. Daytime highs will peak at 43°C inland, 36°C on the east, south, and north coasts, and 33°C on the west coast and in the mountains.
Sunday night will remain mostly clear, with localized fog and low cloud expected. Winds will stay light and variable, and sea conditions will remain calm.
From Monday through Wednesday, the weather will be mainly clear, with a notable drop in temperatures by Wednesday, returning to seasonal averages.
The heatwave is driven by seasonal low pressure and warm air masses, prompting authorities to urge caution, especially for vulnerable populations and outdoor workers.
