Cyprus police are investigating a violent incident in Larnaca involving a 31-year-old man suspected of assaulting an officer, carrying a knife, driving without a license, and using false identity information.
The incident occurred when members of the Larnaca Bicycle Police stopped a car for inspection in the city center. Authorities discovered the driver had no license or valid insurance documentation.
During a physical search, officers found a 9-centimeter knife with a sharp tip on the suspect, leading to his arrest for a flagrant offense. When an officer attempted to place handcuffs on him, the suspect reportedly tried to flee, pushing and biting the officer during the chase. With support from another officer, police managed to subdue him.
Further checks revealed the man had given false personal details during the initial stop, prompting an additional arrest for impersonation.
The injured officer was treated at Larnaca General Hospital and later discharged.
