FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE  – The President of the Republic and the leader of the Turkish Cypriots will meet today for the first time since the informal Geneva conference, officials said.

The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the residence of Colin Stewart, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative, located at the old Nicosia airport.

Discussions will focus on confidence-building measures, including the potential opening of new crossing points. It remains unclear whether Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar will soften his stance on these issues.

The President of the Republic said he aims to achieve tangible results to advance the resolution of the Cyprus problem, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the agreed framework and the principles of the European Union.

He also expressed optimism that an upcoming meeting with the UN Secretary-General in July could lead to a resumption of formal negotiations.
