FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus remained among the European Union countries with the highest number of cars per capita in 2023, though electric vehicle adoption remains low.
The island recorded 647 passenger vehicles per 1,000 residents, up from 633 per 1,000 in 2022.
This steady increase follows a long-term trend—back in 1990, Cyprus had just 304 cars per 1,000 people.
Across the EU, the average remained stable in 2023 at 550 cars per 1,000 residents, nearly unchanged from the previous year.
