FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A man was arrested after allegedly punching a municipal employee during a confrontation over sunbed reservations on a beach in Protaras, local authorities said Saturday.
The suspect, who had placed towels on a lounger to claim it — a practice banned by municipal policy — reportedly assaulted the worker after the towels were removed in line with official procedures. He then fled the scene.
Police tracked down the suspect with help from municipal officials, and he is expected to appear in court.
The Paralimni–Deryneia Municipality condemned the incident, calling it unacceptable and vowed to take legal action against anyone who threatens the safety or dignity of city employees. It warned that towel-reserving tactics would continue to be enforced against.
