FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Despite a volatile geopolitical climate and ongoing tension in the Middle East, Cyprus is effectively handling migration flows, Deputy Minister of Migration Nikolas Ioannides stated during a visit to Chloraka.

The Deputy Minister reported that there has been no increase in arrivals, with asylum applications in the first quarter of 2025 totaling 750, while departures exceeded 3,600.

Ioannides highlighted the accelerated processing of asylum requests, attributed to improvements in the Examinations Department, which has reduced response times to 1 to 3 months.

European officials visiting Reception Centers have also noted the significant reduction in migration flows.

Cyprus remains vigilant, implementing a comprehensive immigration policy focused on integration, legal migration, and protecting asylum seekers’ rights. Surveillance on land and at sea has also been reinforced to maintain order and security amid changing regional dynamics.
