FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – As the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies, Cyprus is ramping up preparations to serve as a key evacuation hub for foreign nationals fleeing the war-torn region.
Authorities have activated a segment of the government’s “Estia Plan,” designating seven schools in Larnaca—five primary and two secondary—as temporary accommodation sites should the need arise. According to reports, Civil Defense teams and the Ministry of Education have inspected the facilities, with plans to equip climate-controlled multipurpose rooms with beds for emergency hosting.
While no large-scale arrivals have occurred so far, Cyprus is positioning itself to respond swiftly to requests for humanitarian support. Officials say the proactive measures are designed to ensure the country can offer logistical and shelter assistance if evacuation flows increase in the coming days.
