It is always heartening to read good news about the health service in Cyprus, especially from Paphos.

Only recently, the hospital there was associated with reports of leaking roofs and ward evacuations, but this week we are informed about the facility undergoing significant improvements, driven by a total investment of over €21.8 million in infrastructure and medical equipment.

Key developments include the construction of a modern haemodialysis unit and an expansion of the accident and emergency department.

Other ongoing projects, such as a short-stay unit and a new fourth floor dedicated to maternal and child services, highlight the hospital’s growing focus on addressing community needs.

Once finished, these will include a paediatric ward and a specialized pulmonology clinic, bringing the total investment in infrastructure to €15.08 million.

Importantly, the upgrades are not limited to new buildings.

The hospital has significantly enhanced its medical equipment, with the introduction of a state-of-the-art 128-slice CT scanner, advanced ultrasound machines, portable digital X-ray machines, and other vital tools like surgical tables and anaesthesia machines.

These improvements reflect a clear effort to enhance the hospital’s capabilities and better serve the needs of its patients.

While there is always room for continued growth, Paphos General Hospital’s recent transformation demonstrates a positive step forward in delivering modern, reliable healthcare to the region.
