FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cypriot Parliament has passed legislation allowing women to enlist in the armed forces on a voluntary basis, with 32 lawmakers voting in favor and 15 abstaining.
President Nikos Christodoulides welcomed the decision, calling it a significant step toward promoting gender equality and strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
Speaking to local media, he emphasized the importance of the move in fostering the principle of equality.
The Ministry of Defense also expressed satisfaction, highlighting its commitment to continuous efforts in collaboration with state institutions and Parliament to enhance the operational effectiveness of the armed forces.
It pledged to work tirelessly in a spirit of cooperation and unity to achieve this goal.
