A new poll conducted by Public Global in collaboration with Kıbrıs newspaper shows independent candidate Ersin Tatar leading the race for the ‘presidency’ of the the Turkish controlled north of Cyprus, ahead of CTP candidate Tufan Erhürman.

According to the survey, Tatar holds 51.2% of voter support, while Erhürman trails with 47.9%. Other candidates collectively received 0.9%.

The poll also explored public opinion in the north on the Cyprus dispute, revealing that 68.4% of respondents favour a two-state solution, while 31.6% support a federal model.

In terms of party preferences for general elections, the UBP leads with 40.9%, narrowly ahead of CTP at 40.1%. Smaller parties such as YDP, DP, HP, TDP, BY, and TAM trail behind.

The survey, based on face-to-face interviews with 1,516 participants across six districts and 18 municipalities, has a margin of error of ±3%. It also included non-Turkish-speaking voters, often underrepresented in polling.

The findings suggest that Tatar has gained momentum in recent weeks, closing an earlier gap and benefiting from increased support among right-leaning voters and party mobilisation. Erhürman’s campaign, while steady, appears to have plateaued.

The cost of living, inflation, and economic hardship emerged as the top public concerns, followed by education, traffic, and healthcare.
