FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities in Limassol are investigating a case of online fraud in which a 76-year-old man was tricked into transferring more than €56,000 to scammers posing as cryptocurrency investment advisors.
The victim reported that he encountered an advertisement in November 2024 promoting cryptocurrency purchases and stock investments with guaranteed profits. After following a fraudulent link, he was contacted by unknown individuals who gained access to his computer and extracted funds over several months.
Police are urging the public to exercise caution when considering online investment opportunities and to verify the legitimacy of platforms before making financial transactions. The investigation is ongoing.
