Cyprus police have launched a nationwide enforcement campaign targeting the use of seat belts and child safety seats, aiming to reduce serious and fatal injuries in road collisions.
The campaign will run from March 9 to March 15 and will focus on ensuring that drivers and passengers use seat belts in both front and rear seats, police said.
Officers will also check for proper use of child seats and booster seats.
The operation is being carried out in parallel with a Europe‑wide initiative coordinated through ROADPOL, the European Traffic Police Network.
Police said seat belts remain the most effective safety feature in vehicles. According to an analysis of data from 2022 to 2024, 50.9% of drivers and passengers killed in road crashes in Cyprus were not wearing a seat belt.
