FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus police have issued a warning about a new wave of scam calls involving individuals impersonating doctors to deceive the public.

The scammers falsely claim that a family member of the recipient has been injured and requires immediate surgery or medical care. They then demand large sums of money to cover supposed medical expenses.

These calls are typically made from concealed numbers, with the scammers urging victims not to end the call, preventing them from verifying the claims with relatives or contacting the authorities.

In response, police are urging citizens to remain vigilant, emphasizing that such claims are fraudulent and aim to extort money.

Authorities advise anyone receiving such calls to report the incident immediately to the nearest police station, the Criminal Investigation Department (TAE), or the Citizens’ Line at 1460.
