Cyprus’ foreign minister expressed hope that the European Union will reach a positive decision within hours on a new support loan for Ukraine.
Speaking on arrival at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Constantinos Kombos stressed the importance of maintaining European backing for Ukraine and strengthening measures against Russia through the bloc’s 20th sanctions package.
On the Middle East, Kombos described the situation as highly complex and unclear, calling for a more active EU role in the region and highlighting the part Cyprus can play.
He also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Joseph Aoun ahead of the informal European Council in Nicosia in the coming days, with discussions focused on stabilizing the surrounding region.
