FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – President Christodoulides addressed the nation on the second anniversary of his governance, highlighting the government’s efforts to tackle long-standing issues.
He announced a reduction in the Value Added Tax on electricity for domestic consumption from 19% to 9%, effective April 1 for one year.
He stated that 90% of his key initiatives were implemented and emphasized achievements in economic growth, full employment, and improved wages and pensions.
He also mentioned efforts to boost competitiveness, tackle housing issues, and address the low birth rate.

The President highlighted the termination of problematic contracts, better agreements, digital transition policies, and a memorandum with the U.S. on economic crime.
He also pointed to significant progress in exploiting natural gas, including agreements with Egypt and ongoing drilling.
Christodoulides highlighted that 2024 was a milestone year for migration management, yielding significant results.
He announced his upcoming trip to Geneva for an expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue, aiming to resume negotiations from where they left off in 2017 and achieve the goal of reunification.
