President Nikos Christodoulides took part in a videoconference of European People’s Party heads of state and government ahead of this week’s European Council meeting, the government spokesman said Monday.
In a post on the X platform, spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said participants noted that recent developments in the Middle East are directly affecting several key issues on the EU agenda.
He said Christodoulides stressed the need for a substantive and wide‑ranging discussion at the European Council, aimed at forming a common assessment of the situation and defining the role the European Union can play in addressing emerging challenges.
