Authorities in Cyprus have reported a sharp increase in drug seizures, particularly cannabis, cocaine, and methamphetamine, according to data from the Republic’s Narcotics Division cited by Politis newspaper.
Between January 1 and September 30, 2025, police investigated 881 drug-related cases involving 886 individuals — 515 Greek Cypriots and 371 foreign nationals. This marks a slight rise from the same period in 2024, when 831 cases were recorded and 886 individuals were investigated.
The quantities of drugs seized in 2025 were significantly higher:
- Cannabis (marijuana): 759.28 kg
- Cannabis resin: 1.49 kg
- Cannabis plants: 53
- Cocaine: 47.06 kg
- Methamphetamine: 6.06 kg
- THC packages: 2,476 (totaling 444 grams)
- Doping substances: 702 tablets, 270 capsules, 33 syringes, 58 ampoules, and 12 bottles
In comparison, seizures during the same period in 2024 included:
- 382.03 kg of cannabis
- 1.48 kg of cannabis resin
- 14 cannabis plants
- 11 kg of cocaine
- 382.64 grams of methamphetamine
- 120 tablets and 21 tubes of doping substances
Officials described the volume of confiscated drugs as “impressive,” reflecting both increased trafficking activity and intensified enforcement efforts.
