Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the latest developments in efforts to end the war, focusing on security guarantees and Ukraine’s future defence arrangements.
Cyprus reaffirmed its support for Ukraine and pledged to advance accession negotiations during its EU presidency.
A visit to Ukraine by Mr Christodoulides is planned for December.
During his visit to Copenhagen, the Cypriot president also met Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to review progress made under Denmark’s presidency on key EU files, including migration policy and the Multiannual Financial Framework.
Cyprus is expected to inherit negotiations on several legislative proposals, particularly concerning asylum returns.
Further meetings were held with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who expressed her intention to visit Cyprus in November, and Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter, as Cyprus is expected to finalise the EU–Switzerland agreement package during its term.
