Police intervened during a protest outside the Foreign Ministry in Nicosia on Thursday evening, following demonstrations against Israel’s interception of an international aid flotilla.
The protest, organised by the Cyprus branch of the Global Gaza Movement, began at 18:30 local time.
Around 150 to 200 demonstrators called for the release of the crew of the Sumud flotilla, currently detained by Israeli authorities.
Shortly after 19:00, officers from the Rapid Response Motorised Unit (MMAD) arrived at the scene. Witnesses said police used shields and pepper spray to disperse the crowd, despite the protest remaining peaceful.
One individual reported minor injuries after being knocked down by a police shield. No arrests were made.
