President Nikos Christodoulides called for stronger collective action by the European Union to combat drug trafficking during a thematic discussion at the European Political Community summit in Yerevan.
Christodoulides stressed the need to address drug smuggling, particularly through European ports, and highlighted the importance of coordination and closer cooperation among member states.
He also referred to the EU’s drug strategy adopted in March, noting that it focuses on prevention as well as dismantling smuggling networks.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni submitted specific proposals during the discussion. Cyprus is co‑signing a declaration centered on three priorities: tackling trafficking, addressing financial crime and reducing demand.
