FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – President Nikos Christodoulides sent a clear message of resistance and remembrance during a memorial event at the Presidential Palace, marking the anniversaries of the 1974 coup and Turkish invasion. He emphasized that the people of Cyprus refuse to accept occupation, silence, or complacency.

Addressing attendees, Christodoulides asserted that Ankara remains accountable to the international community for its ongoing violations of international law and Cypriot sovereignty. He said that Nicosia continues to work tirelessly to create conditions for the resumption of peace talks.

While acknowledging Turkey’s rigid stance at the informal expanded meeting in New York, the president noted that the process left open “a window of hope.” He reaffirmed that Cyprus will never entertain a two-state solution—adding that such a proposal is rejected by the United Nations, the European Union, and the broader international community.

Christodoulides also called for unity across political and ideological lines in the pursuit of a just resolution to the Cyprus issue.
