FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE  – President Nikos Christodoulides said Cyprus is ready to take part in any effort to ensure security and stability in Ukraine, which he said is critical to Europe’s own stability.

Speaking after a summit on Ukraine in Paris hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, Christodoulides called the event significant, noting that about 30 countries participated and Cyprus’ invitation reflects its importance.

“We welcome all efforts, whether by the United States or other countries, to end the war and achieve a ceasefire,” Christodoulides said in a statement. “After a ceasefire, the focus must be on ensuring security and stability in Ukraine and Europe.”

Christodoulides said Cyprus had previously been represented at an operational level in efforts to address the conflict and remains ready to contribute.

He said the summit also discussed the possible deployment of deterrent troops. Christodoulides said any such force should be under the United Nations Security Council, not NATO, to avoid objections from Russia.

“If this is not possible, the EU must determine how to address the challenge,” he said.
