A 36-year-old Egyptian man was sentenced to 18 months and one week imprisonment in Dhekelia on January 29 after being found guilty of Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).

He was arrested on September 11 and remained in custody until trial, for seriously injuring a male colleague following an argument whilst working at a construction site in Asomatos within the SBAs.

The victim, from Syria, suffered slash and stab wounds on the neck, abdominal area and arms and was admitted to Limassol Hospital for a week after undergoing a surgery.

WSBA Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Martyn Ball, said: “This was treated as a serious incident where a detailed investigation was carried out and a desirable outcome was met.

“Violence is a global concern and this outcome displays the SBA Police’s dedication and commitment towards detecting such crimes and bringing such offenders before justice.”
