FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 17-year-old student remains hospitalized in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after being diagnosed with meningococcal sepsis.

The student, who was admitted two nights ago, is intubated and receiving treatment in what is considered the best ICU in Cyprus, according to OKYPY Press Secretary Charalambos Charilaou.

Charilaou described the teenager’s condition as very serious but expressed hope for recovery, emphasizing that all medical protocols are being followed.

In recent days, two additional cases of meningitis have been reported in Cyprus. An 11-year-old schoolgirl is currently being treated at a private clinic in Limassol, while a six-month-old infant is receiving care at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.

The infant’s condition is reportedly stable, and Charilaou expressed optimism that the baby will soon be discharged.

Charilaou also clarified that the three cases are unrelated, and health authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
