Cases of seasonal infections are showing an upsurge in January that will continue into the first half part of February, according to epidemiologist Zoi Dorothea Pana.

Speaking on CyBC 1, Mrs. Pana mentioned that vulnerable groups and the elderly can, even now, be vaccinated against the flu and COVID-19 viruses.

Hospital occupancy in Cyprus has exceeded 90% with patients hospitalized with coronavirus, flu and seasonal infections.

On Thursday, the first death of a patient from Alpha flu, who also had underlying diseases, was announced.

According to the newspaper Phileleftheros, another 87-year-old and a 73-year-old who were also suffering from underlying diseases lost their lives.

A large increase in the number of patients visiting public hospitals, as well as increased admissions, has been recorded due to the RSV, influenza and Covid-19 viruses.
