FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A 16-year-old was arrested in Paphos for illegal possession of explosives as part of a nationwide police operation aimed at preventing juvenile delinquency during the Easter holidays, authorities said Monday.
Police conducted 108 checks in parks, church grounds, and other public areas frequented by young people.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of firecrackers being thrown at a community field. When police arrived, a group of about 15 youths fled the scene.
Officers stopped one suspect and found a waist bag nearby containing six firecrackers. The teenager was arrested at the scene. Authorities said he resisted during the arrest, while other young people threw firecrackers at officers. No injuries were reported.
The suspect was taken to Paphos Police Station, where he was identified as a local resident. He was questioned in the presence of his parents and a lawyer before being taken into custody.
