Cyprus Trade Deficit Widens to €8 Billion in 2025, Eurostat Says

Cyprus’ trade deficit grew by €606 million in 2025 compared with the previous year, reaching €8 billion, driven largely by a sharp rise in imports, according to preliminary figures released by the Statistical Service.

The trade gap stood at €8.001 billion for January–December 2025, up from €7.395 billion in the same period of 2024.

Total imports rose 7.7% to €13.551 billion, compared with €12.582 billion a year earlier. Exports increased 7.0% to €5.550 billion, from €5.186 billion in 2024.

Imports in December totaled €1.204 billion, down 13.1% from €1.386 billion in December 2024. Imports from EU member states reached €789.3 million, while imports from third countries amounted to €415.1 million.

December’s figures include ship‑ownership transfers valued at €218.3 million, compared with €337.4 million a year earlier.

Exports in December rose 30.5% to €490.5 million, up from €376 million in December 2024. Exports to EU countries reached €182.7 million, while exports to third countries totaled €307.8 million. Ship‑ownership transfers accounted for €130.1 million, compared with €51.4 million in December 2024.

Final Data for November 2025
Final figures show imports in November 2025 at €1.043 billion, down 10.1% from €1.161 billion in November 2024.

Exports of domestically produced goods — including ship and aircraft stores — reached €283.9 million, up 16.1% from €244.5 million a year earlier. Industrial exports (excluding ship and aircraft stores) totaled €276.6 million, compared with €237.1 million in November 2024. Agricultural exports stood at €6.2 million, slightly below €6.4 million a year earlier.

Exports of foreign products — including ship and aircraft stores — rose 4.7% to €144.9 million, from €138.4 million in November 2024.

For January–November 2025, the top categories of domestically produced exports (excluding ship and aircraft stores) were mineral fuels and oils (€2.188 billion), halloumi (€332.2 million) and pharmaceutical products (€318 million).
