FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Troodos Observatory announced that the annual Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak overnight from August 12 to 13, offering stargazers a chance to witness up to 75 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.
The shower, one of the most prominent of the year, is expected to be most active from late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. However, visibility may be hindered by the Moon, which will be in a waning crescent phase with approximately 92 percent illumination.
Despite the bright lunar presence, observers in dark, rural areas may still catch glimpses of the Perseids, which are known for their fast, bright streaks across the sky. The observatory recommends avoiding artificial light and allowing eyes to adjust to darkness for optimal viewing.
