Motor vehicle registrations in Cyprus increased 5.8 percent in 2025, reaching 52,508, the Statistical Service has said in its annual report.
In December alone, registrations rose 27.1 percent to 3,604, compared with 2,836 in December 2024. Passenger saloon car registrations jumped 36.6 percent to 2,801.
For the full year, passenger saloon registrations grew 6.2 percent to 40,778. Of these, 35.9 percent were new vehicles and 64.1 percent used. Rental cars recorded a sharp increase of 32.4 percent, totaling 5,169.
The share of petrol‑powered saloon cars fell to 42 percent from 48.6 percent a year earlier, while diesel models declined to 8.9 percent from 10.3 percent. Electric vehicles rose to 4.7 percent from 4 percent, and hybrids climbed to 44.3 percent from 37.1 percent.
Bus registrations increased to 181 from 133 in 2024.
Goods‑transport vehicle registrations rose 6.8 percent to 6,208, including increases in rental vehicles (up 23.8 percent), light trucks (up 6.9 percent), road tractors (up 3.3 percent) and heavy trucks (up 1.7 percent).
Moped registrations under 50cc fell sharply to 213 from 690, while motorcycle registrations over 50cc rose 14.5 percent to 4,467.
Japan remained the leading country of manufacture for registered vehicles at 44.1 percent, followed by Germany, France, the United Kingdom and South Korea. White was the most popular vehicle color at 34.4 percent, ahead of grey, black, blue and silver.
