Authorities reported high concentrations of dust across Cyprus on Monday, warning that the airborne particles could pose health risks, especially for vulnerable groups.
The Labour Inspection Department said readings from its air‑quality monitoring stations showed elevated levels of PM10 dust, prompting an advisory for the public — particularly children, the elderly and people with health conditions — to avoid outdoor activity until conditions improve.
Employers were reminded that under the 2022 Code of Practice on protecting workers during dust episodes, they must assess risks for staff working outdoors and take appropriate organizational or technical measures. Outdoor workers are advised to use suitable personal protective equipment.
At 7 a.m., hourly dust concentrations included 38.5 μg/m³ in Nicosia, 102.0 in Limassol, 85.5 in Larnaca, 76.2 in Paralimni, 110.3 in Paphos, 82.1 in Zygi and 124.3 in Agia Marina Xyliatou. The legal daily limit is 50 μg/m³.
