Cyprus Weather: Island bracing for another day of intense heat Thursday

Cyprus is bracing for another day of intense heat Thursday, with mostly clear skies and temperatures soaring across the island.

Daytime highs are expected to reach around 45°C (113°F) in inland areas, 38°C (100°F) along the southern and eastern coasts, 35°C (95°F) in the west and north, and 37°C (99°F) in the mountains.

Winds will vary across the island in the morning, blowing northeast to southeast in the east and southeast, and southwest to northwest in the west. Speeds will range from light to moderate, at 3 to 4 Beaufort. By afternoon, winds will shift to generally southwest to northwest, remaining light to moderate, but locally strengthening to 4 to 5 Beaufort, especially inland and in western regions.

Seas will be calm to slightly choppy in the southeast and east, but slightly to moderately rough in the southwest, west, and north.

Tonight, conditions will remain mostly clear and warm. Winds will continue from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally reaching 4 Beaufort. Seas will be slightly choppy in the east and south, and moderately rough in the west and north. Overnight lows will drop to around 27°C (81°F) inland, 26°C (79°F) along the coast, and 24°C (75°F) in the mountains.

On Friday, the Feast of the Assumption, skies will stay mostly clear, though winds are expected to strengthen. Temperatures will begin to drop, especially inland and in higher elevations, but will remain above seasonal averages.

Saturday and Sunday will bring continued clear skies, with occasional patches of increased cloud cover. Temperatures on Saturday will fall further, nearing seasonal norms. No significant change is expected on Sunday.
