A giant wave struck a natural swimming pool on the western coast of Tenerife, killing three people and injuring three others, emergency services on the Canary Islands said Sunday. One person remains missing.
Authorities confirmed the victims included two men and a woman. One of the men was 35 years old, while the woman was 55. The age of the third victim has not yet been released.
The incident occurred as powerful Atlantic waves battered the Canary Islands, a seasonal hazard during autumn and winter.
Officials warned that residents and tourists should exercise caution near coastal areas, where sudden surges can sweep people into the sea.
