Police have once again issued a set of general online‑safety guidelines, urging the public to take basic precautions to protect personal data and devices amid a steady rise in internet‑related scams across Cyprus.

Authorities say fraud attempts — from phishing emails and fake investment schemes to impersonation scams and malicious links — continue to circulate daily, often targeting vulnerable users or exploiting current events. Officers stress that many victims are deceived not by sophisticated hacking, but by simple social‑engineering tricks that rely on urgency, fear or financial temptation.

Police advise the public not to share personal information on unfamiliar websites or with unknown individuals, and to ensure that any site they visit uses an encrypted connection beginning with “https://”.

Users are also urged not to open links or attachments from unknown senders and not to respond to suspicious emails or text messages requesting personal details or payments. Authorities further warn against trusting strangers who promote investment opportunities online — a scam type that has repeatedly cost victims significant sums in recent months.
