FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Authorities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines have discovered the remains of eleven people in a boat that drifted ashore on the island of Canouan.
Police Chief Junior Simmons said the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, with some not fully intact. Several passports, believed to be from Mali, were recovered at the site where the vessel ran aground.
The boat, measuring approximately 45 feet (14 meters), washed up on a beach in the southern part of the island nation, one of the most southeastern countries in the Caribbean.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the vessel’s journey. Authorities are working with regional and international partners to trace its origins.
