Ukrainian EU membership is a geopolitical investment, says a spokesperson for the European Commission.
‘The Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has once again underlined the geopolitical importance of expanding the union,’ the spokesperson told the press in Brussels on Thursday.
The EU opened the door to Ukraine in December 2023.
But there is a long way to go and many years until membership negotiations are completed, the spokesperson points out.
