European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that EU member states will be briefed on Tuesday about the Commission’s ambitious plans for rearmament, aptly named “Rearm Europe.”

Von der Leyen emphasized the necessity of significant rearmament to ensure lasting peace and stability in Europe.

“We need a massive rearmament, that is beyond discussion. We want a lasting peace, but that can only happen through strength. And then we must start by strengthening ourselves,” she stated.

The “Rearm Europe” plan aims to bolster the defense capabilities of EU member states, enhancing their ability to respond to potential threats and safeguard the region’s security.

The initiative is expected to focus on modernizing military equipment, increasing defense budgets, and fostering greater cooperation among member states.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in Europe, with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the need for a united and robust defense strategy.

The European Commission’s proposal underscores the importance of collective action and solidarity in addressing security challenges.

EU member states will discuss the details of the “Rearm Europe” plan during the upcoming summit in Brussels, where they will evaluate the proposed measures and their implications for the region’s defense posture.
