NICOSIA — A fire broke out Friday afternoon at the University of Cyprus in Aglantzia, prompting an emergency response and evacuation of students from nearby classrooms.
According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the blaze was reported at 12:52 p.m. and involved insulation material on the roof of a university building. Three fire engines from Nicosia stations were dispatched to the scene.
Workers conducting roof insulation managed to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived. As a precaution, fire crews evacuated students in coordination with university staff.
Authorities confirmed the fire was caused by construction work on the roof. No injuries were reported.
