FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Colin Stewart, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus and Chief of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus, expressed optimism about the upcoming 5+1 informal meeting on Cyprus .

Stewart acknowledged the ongoing fundamental disagreements over the peace process but emphasized the positive aspect of the parties coming together again.

“I sincerely hope that the parties will use the Geneva meeting as an opportunity to make progress on the Cyprus issue,” he said.

The Geneva Cyprus meeting refers to informal discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing Cyprus issue.

It involves representatives from both sides of Cyprus, as well as Greece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, which are the guarantor powers for the island.

The United Nations facilitates these talks. The goal is to find a solution for the reunification of Cyprus and to resume discussions that were interrupted in previous years.
