A building south of Nicosia’s old city, currently used by the Greek Embassy and belonging to the Feneromeni Church, is being donated to Greece, church officials have confirmed.
According to the news site Politisnews, Chrysostomos Chrysostomou, head of the Feneromeni Church Committee, announced the decision after a service marking the anniversary of Greece’s 1821 uprising.
He said the move was made at the suggestion of Archbishop Georgios, adding that the church would proceed “out of respect for his institutional role and spiritual guidance.”
Chrysostomou described the donation as a gesture of honor toward Greece and the Greek people.
Greek Ambassador Konstantinos Kollias expressed gratitude for what he called a “bold and national contribution” by the Church.
He said the embassy and the Church have long worked together on issues of national importance, including the promotion of Greek language, culture and traditions in Cyprus.
