Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanoli praised Limassol’s long maritime tradition and Cyprus’ role as a global shipping center during remarks at an event hosted by the Limassol Reserve Officers Association.
Hadjimanoli noted the association’s six‑decade presence in the city and its new headquarters, a building with historical ties to Limassol’s early social and maritime life.
She said Cyprus maintains one of the world’s largest merchant fleets and has developed into a major hub for ship and crew management, with more than 250 shipping companies based in Limassol.
The country’s high‑standard registry and long‑term national strategy, she added, have helped secure Cyprus’ position on the global maritime map.
Hadjimanoli emphasized that future growth depends on strengthening the human element in shipping.
The deputy minister said her office is working with the Education Ministry, maritime academies and industry groups to promote seafaring careers and expand maritime education, aiming to attract more young people to the sector.
She also reaffirmed the government’s support for the association’s activities.
